Policies aren't the fun part of being an ethical breeder, however they are necessary to protect the animals,, the breeder and potential adopters. These policies were developed based on scenarios that have occurred during my experience as a breeder. I am a very reasonable person, so if you are having an issue, or a unique situation arises, please contact me. I would rather talk out a situation than have any type of issue. Most situations can usually be resolved quite easily through open communication.
Payment and other polices apply to all all animals for sale. Payment policies are the same for all animals as well.
By sending payment you agree to the policies and terms on this website and those communicated to you by the breeder.
All animals are prepay in full only. Animals are not held without payment.
Payments of any form are not refundable.
The term DEPOSIT refers to the Priority-Waitlist spots that cost $30. The priority-waitlist means that members get to choose from available hoglets before they're listed on the website.
Animals are not held on priority-waitlist deposits. The $30 fee only gives the priority selection, in order for the animal to he claimed, full remaining payment must be sent within 24 hours of selection.
PLEASE only make a Priority- waitlist deposit or send ANY form of payment if you intend on following through with purchase and pick up. This policy is mentioned a few times on my website, only because there has been an increase in people placing priority-waitlist deposits then requesting them be refunded. Please think through animal ownership before making any payments, please do not place any payments impulsively.
Waitlist Deposits do not guarantee ownership over any offered animals. Animals must be paid for in full, the buyer must have needed supplies and the transfer of ownership form must be completed to transfer the animal into the New owner's care.
The GENERAL waitlist is FREE. However it does not guarantee priority selection of animals. With the GENERAL waitlist, you can send along your name, contact info and animal preferences and I will contact you when animals are listed on the website. It's then up to you to claim an animal if you'd like. Emails regarding your name on the general waitlist are not computer generated. It takes time for me to organize, type and send the emails to all the members. If you receive an email and do not respond, your name will be removed from the general free waitlist. If you are not ready to select a hoglet at the time of receiving the email, please respond and let me know. I will then keep your name on the list for the next round. If you do not want to be on the waitlist any longer, please respond and let me know.
Animals are priced according to their markings, gender, temperament etc. I do monitor local and national hedgehog price averages and offer fair pricing that is below those averages.
** My and insurance does not allow the public into my home to view animals. I do not have a physical pet shop. No one is able to enter my home and view animals here. This is for the safety of myself and the animals here and is a requirement of my insurance.
Sometimes things do not go as planned with expected litters and a mamma turns out not to be pregnant, the pregnancy isn't vital, or babies do not survive weaning. Should this happen to a litter deposited towards, the deposit and spot on the waitlist will be applied towards the next available litter.
All waitlist members agree that the remaining balance of their animal is due at animal selection.
Selection is when I, the breeder, send each of the Waitlist members photos of the available hoglets and ask which one they would like. Pricing for each individual animal will also be provided at that time.
animals are selected/ "claimed" when they have opened their eyes and have their first coat (hedgehogs) Or are two weeks old (guinea pigs). This does not mean that the animal is ready to go home yet. Animals cannot go home until they are weaned and fully self sufficient, this may take anywhere between 2 and 8 weeks from selection. A time frame cannot be guaranteed though, as each little one develops at it's own pace.
If the balance is not paid at time of selection, the deposit will be forfeited.
Animals for selection are sent to waitlist members in the order in which their deposit was received.
Each member has 24 hours to select the Animal they will be claiming. If I, the breeder, Reach out to a waitlist member who does not respond within 24 hrs, their deposit is considered forfeited. the waitlist member must respond whether or not they are going to be selecting a hoglet from that batch. No response equals a forfeited deposit. This policy is to limit the time spent trying to communicate with ghosts.
If the non responsive waitlist member ends up responding within three days, I will gladly move their spot towards the next available animals, however the number of their spot will be last. This is a one time offering.
If the waitlist member responds within the 24 hour time frame and does not like any of the hoglets presented for selection, their spot will be moved towards the next available litters, however their number will be after all other depositors.
If a litter deposited towards does not have enough hoglets to fulfill the waitlist, the higher number waitlist members will be moved towards the next available litter/hoglets.
I contact waitlist members when their selected animals are ready to be picked up. Pickup must occur within 7 days.
Often times, animals will be listed as available on this website. These animals can be purchased directly online by the public.
If an animal listed on this website has a ready by/ go home date listed , the pickup must occur within 7 days of that date. I do sometimes make other agreements regarding pickup dates, so please ask if you need a date a little further out. However, here i will keep the general policy as 7 days.
Inability to pick up a paid for animal within 7 days of payment, OR the ready by date, voids reservation of the animal. Refunds are not issued so only make a payment if you are sure you'd like a hedgehog as a pet and can pick the animal up within the allotted time frame.
No-shows for scheduled pick ups forfeit all payments. I ask for 24 hours notice in scheduling initial pick ups and any rescheduling. When rescheduling, the mentioned policies apply from the date of original correspondence and do not "renew" or "start over". Not showing up for a scheduled pickup, will forfeit payment and animal. Incessive rescheduling will also forfeit payment and animal. Please respect my time and schedule a time and date when you are able to show up on time.
If I attempt to contact you to schedule a pickup to no response, or response is late and does not allot for a 24 hour scheduling, payments may be considered forfeited at I, the breeder's, discretion. I have had many people pay for animals ( particularly reduced fee or "Free" animals) then not keep in contact regarding pickup. This is unfair to the animal and to the breeder and may indicate an inability by the adopter to provide quality care to the animal. In these cases, of difficult communication, any payment will be forfeited and can be applied towards a future animal. If it is believed that the adopter may not be able to properly care for the animal, a partial refund will be issued based on the amount of time the breeder has corresponded with the adopter and the amount of resources and care that have been used on the animal since claimed. Payments typically depreciate by $25-$30 a day.
I DO NOT chase people for payments or pickups, so please only make a deposit or payment to claim an animal if you have all intentions of following through with the adoption.
If you pay by paypal, venmo etc, please understand that it is our policies you agree to. I have had people pay for an animal and then make fraudulent paypal claims in order to receive a refund, meaning the animal was free of cost. In these cases, I do pursue them in court. Making a refund request in order to get a free animal is fraudulent. Anyone who does so or attempts to will be responsible to pay an additional $1,000.00 in damages, on top of court fees, animal cost and attorney/other fees.
When you adopt an animal you agree that you understand how to care for it, it's behavior, and to give your new addition fair and ample time to adjust to it's new home.
Payments are not refundable.
Cages and supplies are not included with any purchase.
You must be aged 18 or older to adopt a hedgehog.
No animals sold are to be used for breeding.
All who purchase animals from me agree that they will not breed the animal. Breeding will result in having to pay damages due to a breach of the "no breeding" contract in the transfer of ownership that must be signed upon pickup.
All adopters must sign a transfer of ownership form when picking up their animal. This form is required by law. The transfer of ownership makes the animal your legal property at the time of pickup. Animals are considered property by law and this form is required by state law.
I do accept returns of animals, even years down the road, of animals adopted from within my care. Returns are subject to space that is available within my home to house the animal.
*Refunds are not given for returns. I do not charge a return fee as many other breeders do. Even if the animal has medical issues, I will take care of them and love them just as much as when they were born here, without charging any fees.
I am unable to offer boarding services. In order to legally board (baby sit) animals special licenses are required, including costly additional insurance.
Regarding Transport: If you elect to have your animals transported to you, that is done by a third party transporter service. I do not deliver nor transport animals, I am not responsible for any animals once they enter the transporter's care.
Policies may change at anytime without prior notification.
Again, By sending payment you agree to the terms and conditions listed on this website. These policies are in place because we have had many people claim animals then never show up at pickup or make deposits then never follow through with selecting an animal.
I totally understand that sometimes things happen in life that change our plans to become HogParents,. If something comes up please contact me and talk to me about it. I have created and follow the policies listed here due to various experiences that prompted their creation, unfortunately they were necessary. I have been ghosted more times than paranormal investigators on Halloween. It's not fun and it's not fair to the animal.
I care about each and every HogParent who gets their pet from me, If life happens and silly situations arise, message me, let's talk about it.

Many breeders offer limited health warranties, limited being the key word.
When I was merely a pet owner, I never understood the "limited" part of any warranty. Either you back your pet parents or you don't.
Many warranties require necropsies (animal autopsies) from a veterinarian when something goes wrong in order to get any type of replacement. All WHS guarantees, that I've seen, require a necropsy (WHS is currently only diagnosed via necropsy) to exercise a replacement. Well, a necropsy costs an average of $300. ($416 new average cost as of Oct 2021)
So, in addition to loosing a pet, owners must shell out $300+ in order to MAYBE get a replacement animal. If it wasn't WHS that the animal died form, and it was say a stroke or heart attack instead, the owner is out all the way around.
This didn't sit well with me.
I do not require a necropsy in order to get a replacement for an animal that has suspected WHS. Please read all of the details below. The warranty details start after this line.
Regarding animals who die due to a care related factor
If your animal dies within the first year of life, due to a care related error , contact the breeder *
The breeder will go over your set up, diet and care routine.
The breeder will review to determine if this was a preventable care related issue that caused death to the animal.
If it was care related (at the breeder's determination) , the breeder will review proper care with the owner and advise the owner how to correct any mistakes, causes or contributing factors to the Animal's death*.
When the care is corrected to the breeder's satisfaction (proof via photo and video required) the owner will receive 50% off their next animal from me, the breeder.
No other refunds, reimbursement, or compensation will be provided.
*Proof of the animal's death may be requested. Proof includes a photo of the deceased animal (satisfactory to the breeder) and/or a letter from a veterinarian stating the animal is no longer living. Believe it or not, I was recently contacted by someone claiming that their hoglet from me died after only having it for 3 weeks. Oddly, I hadn't placed any animals ( or had any available) for almost two months. The person's name also wasn't in my records system. They were trying to scam me for a free hedgehog. Hence this proof policy.
Regarding possible Genetic related illnesses
If you purchase a hedgehog from me and it develops any of the illnesses listed below, within it's first year of life (EXCEPT WHS. WHS carries a lifetime replacement warranty), I will gladly replace the animal with another at no additional cost (see below for full details). This offer only applies once. No other refunds, reimbursement, or compensation will be provided.
The Possible Genetic linked health issues that will be honored with a replacement (as described above) are:
~All Cancers EXCEPT skin Cancers
~Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS)** (Life time replacement warranty)
**as suspected to be the most probable diagnosis in relation to symptoms, as stated in writing by the attending Doctor Of Veterinary Medicine.
A letter must be provided from a veterinarian who has diagnosed the animal with any of the above listed conditions in order to obtain a replacement animal at no cost.
If the animal passed away and it had not yet been seen by a vet, no help will be offered to the owner. Just kidding, I'm not mean like that. (Sorry, just trying to make light of these serious policies here).
If the animal passes away and it was never seen by a vet or a vet hasn't determined it to have passed due to any of the above conditions, 50% off a replacement animal's cost will offered. I know this policy may seem odd, and yes It will cause me to loose money. But I believe that loosing a pet is traumatic enough without all the red tape and replacement denials. Symptoms prior to passing will have to be discussed and photos and set up/care stats must be provided. If It seems probable (to the breeder) that the animal did in fact pass from one of the above conditions, the 50% off will be honored. If it was a care related mistake, as determined by the breeder, the warranty info earlier listed on this page will be honored. Bot warranties are basically the same, except the care error warranty will require fixing care or habitat mistakes.
Hedgehogs may develop other medical issues that I am not able to offer a warranty towards. This is because many factors can contribute to those illnesses. Here, Those items are listed and how to reduce occurrences are mentioned. Such illnesses include, but are not limited to; reproductive system infections and disorders, infections in general, parasites, poisonings, broken limbs, Gastrointestinal disorders and infections, tumors, Eye injury or pop eye due to skull or sinus pressure, respiratory diseases and infection, and urinary or bladder infections. kidney or liver disease.
The best way to lessen chances of these and other issues is by keeping a clean and safe cage, offering a high quality diet, fresh water and supplementation via your vet's recommendation such as; fish oil, monthly trace minerals, and/or a multi vitamin. Several of our HogParents opt to give canine red cell twice monthly as a vitamin supplement along with Fish oil weekly. Hogparents have put their hedgehogs on cranberry extract and blueberry extract supplements on a 2x weekly basis. Bene-bac or Remard Total equine probiotics have been a successful favorite of Hogparents. Probios multi species probiotic powder is the third most recommended gut flora supplement. It's important to always discuss supplementation with your veterinarian.
FEEDING FRUITS , NUTS AND VEGETABLES TO YOUR HEDGEHOG CAN CAUSE ILLNESS. Do not feed your hedgehog these items. Please only feed the items listed on the care page. Feeding Plant matter can make a hedgehog very sick and it may develop long term intestinal, colon, and malnutrition related issues.
Other conditions, terms and policies regarding this warranty
Any requests for replacement or discount in situations in which an attempt to breed the animal is suspected, no warranties will be honored and the damages listed in the transfer of ownership will be due to be paid to the breeder immediately ( by the animal owner). Damages owed to the breeder for breaching the no breeding agreement are $700 and up. If you are looking to illegally breed hedgehogs, I am not the breeder to go through.
All replacement animal availability and discounted animal availability is dependent upon the length of the waitlist and number of animals the breeder has available. It may take some time before a replacement is able to be honored.
If the breeder is no longer breeding at the time of a discount or replacement request, the stated will not be honored.
All offers to replace an animal or offer a discount on another animal only apply once.
No refunds, reimbursement, or financial compensation will be provided for any reason.
The breeder holds no liability over the animal nor it's conditions once it leaves the breeder's facility.
The listed warranties and replacements are a courtesy only. The listed warranties and replacements may change at any time, at the breeder's discretion.
Everyone who purchases an animal from the breeder, agrees to these statements. A payment for an animal is considered an acknowledgement and agreement to these terms.
